Tasman has massive unmet demand for smaller, more affordable homes from our young, elderly and renters. Building yet more 4 bedroom 3 bathroom houses on the city fringe will do nothing to change this – it will only stimulate more wealthy retirees to move here.
We need to refocus our development industry to meet our own needs by creating well-designed intensification that makes urban and village living an attractive lifestyle choice. This development approach will result in much more affordable homes when it is scaled up and appropriately incentivised.
