…it’s often what drives real change!
Throughout New Zealand, many successful mayors have come in without prior council experience and made a real impact. People like Mark Blumsky in Wellington, who brought business experience and new energy to the city – or Nick Leggett in Porirua, elected as one of the country’s youngest mayors, who effectively led from day one.
Fresh leadership brings new ideas, independent thinking, and the confidence to ask tough questions – qualities that are vital when councils need to rebuild trust and rethink how they operate.
It’s also worth noting that every new mayor – including Tim King when he was first elected – receives structured support and guidance through Local Government New Zealand to ensure they can step into the role confidently and work effectively with staff and councillors from the start.
I’ll bring fresh energy, accountability, and a clear vision for Tasman’s future – and I’m ready to learn from day one.
