We are now feeling the financial impact of decades of bad decision-making. Rates, rent and the time and cost of commuting to work are a nightmare. They have risen to an unsustainable level and are contributing to a worsening cost of living crisis.
The good news is that many of these costs are largely within TDC’s control. We can design the infrastructure for our towns and villages to be much more efficient and cost-effective. We can incentivise the building of smaller, more affordable, but dignified and beautiful homes in more central locations. And we can reduce the need to commute long distances by car, simply by allowing people to live closer to where they work and by allowing them to work closer to where they live.
The bad news? These changes will take time.
