A healthy environment forms the foundation on which we can build a lasting, sustainable economy that provides for prosperity now and into the future. Healthy rivers are the lifeblood of our environment, supporting biodiversity, attenuating stormwater and providing us with the clean water that we depend on.
However, our rivers are threatened by pollution, land use changes and habitat degradation.
Our council needs to continue supporting efforts to reduce pollution from agriculture and urban areas and promote sustainable land management practices. I support the Council’s continued involvement in wetland rehabilitation, fencing of waterways and erosion control.
However, better land use planning is needed to make our towns and villages more resilient and to reduce pollution runoff and encroachment into natural habitats.
